Pictures of all the dogs running on Saturday can be found here, and on Sunday can be found here.

The galleries for all the events I have photographed in 2012 can be found here.

The basenji in the pink blanket pictured above is Ch Baraka Jumoke Salish Lummi. She won the open stake both days.

In 2004 Bryan and I were in the middle of a major house remodel (our 1920 farmhouse) and living in the motorhome parked in our yard. As diehard, devoted hobby basenji breeders, that did not stop us from wanting to breed our lovely Sprite to Benny when the opportunity was presented to us. This litter of seven puppies born in January of 2004 produced SIX AKC Champions with co-breeders Kathy Britton, Connie Paulsen, Bryan & Laurie Gregory, and George Woodard. Out of this came Ch. Jumoke Khani Baru Rumba, who attached himself firmly to George and Marcia Woodard, who named him “KONA”.

George took Kona to the BCOA Nationals that year and earned “Best Puppy in Sweeps” under breeder/judge Damara Bolte’. Marcia is a writer and wrote a series of articles published in the AKC Gazette (back when it was a printed magazine), and these articles were published into a book titled “Collected Kona“.

Kona was almost a veteran when AKC started the Grand Champion program. Marcia and her niece, Melina, were showing Kona’s daughter Chloe (Ch. Khani’s iCarly Baru), and since Kona was traveling with them they thought he should be entered too!

Here is a picture of Marcia showing Kona in October 2011 at the Basenji Club of Northern California Specialty, winning Best Veteran.

Marcia Woodard showing Kona

Kona finished his GRAND CHAMPION title in April 2012 at the age of eight years old.

We are so proud of Marcia and her accomplishments with Kona!

Below is a picture of Kona and his brother Paso at the Evergreen Basenji Club Specialty in 2004 when they were just seven months old. Kona is shown by George, and Paso is shown by Bryan.

We had two beautiful spring days at the Polo Field in Roy for the Western Washington Whippet Association ASFA Lure Trials. I had a great time taking pictures and we brought the puppies out to socialize.

Pictures from the trials on Saturday and Sunday can be found in the event galleries here.

This is one of my favorite pictures:

On the left, in the pink blanket is DC Baraka Jumoke Salish Sammish. He finished his AKC Lure Championship in three undefeated trials and is well on his way to his ASFA title. On Sunday at the WWWA-ASFA trial he took BEST IN FIELD.

On the right in the blue blanket is F.Ch. Ntomba Mosika, SC, RN, F.Ch. He finished his ASFA Lure Championship this past weekend with a total of five Best of Breeds, one Best in Field, and one second place (losing to Sammy). Mosika is our native african import.

In October 2011 I was there to watch Katie and Lil take BEST IN SHOW at the Del Valle Kennel Club in Pleasanton California. Shortly after we returned to Washington I met up with Katie and Lil at a local park for a photo session in honor of her spectacular win.

This is the photo that was featured on the cover of the November 2011 issue of The Basenji Club of Great Britain Chronicle.

Here is another photo taken of Katie and Lil that day.

I really enjoy taking portraits of these beautiful dogs. Let me know if you want me to take the next cover shot of your dog!

Next weekend is the Seattle Kennel Club annual show. I have prepared a special video/slideshow featuring Lure Coursing which will be playing at the Evergreen Basenji Club booth.

They were brought from the village of Bokoli to Lingunda riding in this basket which was tied onto the back of this motorcycle behind Bryan and James along the rough narrow trail. From there we traveled three days down the Lomako and Maringa Rivers in a pirogue to the town of Basankusu.

This was truly a life changing trip and alot has happened in our lives since our return. My heart goes out to the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as their country struggles with continued political upheaval. It is such a beautiful country. I will never forget the time I spent there.

So we decided to split them into two groups. Here are the two girls.

And here are the three boys.

Then we tried for all five again. Oh well . . .
