And here is our young boy Jumoke’s Twist and Shout “Shaker” running at his first trial.   He earned 24 points towards his ASFA Field Champion title this weekend.

Best of Breed at the Basenji Specialty was won by DC Baraka Jumoke Salish Samish, who also finished his ASFA Field Championship this weekend!

The basenji in the pink blanket pictured above is Ch Baraka Jumoke Salish Lummi.  She won the open stake both days.

George took Kona to the BCOA Nationals that year and earned “Best Puppy in Sweeps” under breeder/judge Damara Bolte’.  Marcia is a writer and wrote a series of articles published in the AKC Gazette (back when it was a printed magazine), and these articles were published into a book titled “Collected Kona“. 

Kona was almost a veteran when AKC started the Grand Champion program.  Marcia and her niece, Melina, were showing Kona’s daughter Chloe (Ch. Khani’s iCarly Baru), and since Kona was traveling with them they thought he should be entered too!

Kona finished his GRAND CHAMPION title in April 2012 at the age of eight years old.

We are so proud of Marcia and her accomplishments with Kona!

BEST IN FIELD BASENJIS

On the left, in the pink blanket is DC Baraka Jumoke Salish Sammish.  He finished his AKC Lure Championship in three undefeated trials and is well on his way to his ASFA title.  On Sunday at the WWWA-ASFA trial he took BEST IN FIELD.

On the right in the blue blanket is F.Ch. Ntomba Mosika, SC, RN, F.Ch.  He finished his ASFA Lure Championship this past weekend with a total of five Best of Breeds, one Best in Field, and one second place (losing to Sammy).   Mosika is our native african import.

There were six basenjis competing.  Three of these earned their RN titles, two others earned qualifying legs towards their titles.  It is fun to have such an active, supportive group at the trial.  Next gathering will be in June for the EBC Rally and Obedience Specialty!

The Evergreen Basenji Club hosted two AKC Lure Trials at the Polo Field in Roy, WA.  Due to weather conditions I was not able to photograph all of the runs, but I think you will like what I was able to capture.  Photos from the weekend can be found in my gallery here.

The weather was quite challenging.  There was Rain, Snow, Sleet, Hail, and brilliant moments of Sunshine, often at the same time.  Here is a picture of the dogs in the rain/sun.

New Dual Champion Baraka Jumoke Salish Samish finished his AKC Lure Coursing Championship Sunday.  He was Best of Breed both days.  He is pictured below running against the Ridgeback and the Pharoah in the Best in Field course.

Our January litter by Betty and Moke are close to 10 weeks old now.  We have been busy taking them everywhere for socialization.  Still looking for a home for one little girl.  Here they are watching the lure trial.

Next weekend is the Seattle Kennel Club annual show.  I have prepared a special video/slideshow featuring Lure Coursing which will be playing at the Evergreen Basenji Club booth.

Mosika and Lokoso arrive in Lingunda, Bryan & Lisa admire the pups along with children of the village.

They were brought from the village of Bokoli to Lingunda riding in this basket which was tied onto the back of this motorcycle behind Bryan and James along the rough narrow trail.  From there we traveled three days down the Lomako and Maringa Rivers in a pirogue to the town of Basankusu.

This was truly a life changing trip and alot has happened in our lives since our return.  My heart goes out to the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as their country struggles with continued political upheaval.  It is such a beautiful country.  I will never forget the time I spent there.

So we decided to split them into two groups.  Here are the two girls.

Then we tried for all five again.  Oh well . . .
