More Lure Coursing Photos

Today the Cascade Coursing Club hosted an AKC Lure Trial at Argus Ranch.  Three of the dogs were from a litter we co-bred with Paul and Bill two years ago.   Ch Baraka Jumoke Salish Lummi (Mrs Wiggles), Ch Baraka Jumoke Salish Samish (Sammy), and Ch Salish Sea’s Baraka Jumoke Ms Diamond.

The following video shows Mrs Wiggles (blue blanket) and Sammy (pink blanket) launching from the start line.  This is a slideshow featuring ten sequential pictures taken at roughly 8 frames per second.  Notice that once she gets up to speed her feet (blue dog) are hardly touching the ground!  This demonstrates clearly the two phases of the double suspension gallop.

I love watching these athletes run. There are more local events scheduled in the next couple of months.

Did the groundhog see his shadow?

Mother Nature is teasing us with a preview of springtime.  I don’t know if the groundhog saw his shadow this year or not, but spring fever has certainly affected me yet again.  That’s as good excuse as any to take my camera out to play with my dogs.

Here is one year old Shaker,  also known as Jumoke’s Twist and Shout.

Basenji Puppies

Today I had the pleasure of photographing two basenji puppies. They are almost 8 weeks old and love to explore the big wide world.   Zandra brought Rio and Enzi over to play.  Their mother is our lovely Brazil, and father is Tracker.  This is a line breeding back to our Tootsie.

The Brindle boy is still available.  The Red girl is a KEEPER.

Basenji in Rally Obedience

It has been Maaany years since I stepped foot in an obedince ring. This weekend Mosika and I made our debut in Rally. Rally is a form of obedience trial in which you are allowed to talk to your dog and use body language to keep him engaged in working with you.

This Novice Rally course started with a Right serpentine (circling three cones, then two cones, then one cone) followed by a right 360 circle, followed by a left 270 turn. By the time we finished making all these circles Mosika must have thought I was totally NUTS and I was getting DIZZY! Here is the video that Bryan filmed at the Puyallup show. Please note that he performed a brilliant “stop and down” at sign #6, but the judge was standing in the way of the camera!

We did Rally the previous day for our first qualifying score of 97 (our very first time in the ring). Bryan was busy showing Shaker in the breed ring so didn’t get to watch.

Watch for us in the Rally ring in the near future as we hunt for the third leg of our Rally Novice (RN) title.

Grand Champion Jumoke’s Superfecta

Here is another short video clip I have made featuring “Melina”.   She is a daughter of Ch Jumoke’s Arazi Re out of Ch Jumoke’s Mischievous Sprite.

Last year she was bred to our Ch Quita’s Bar Code producing a lovely litter including Jumoke’s Twist and Shout “Shaker”, Jumoke Baru Mr Moonlight “Zeke”, and Jumoke’s Abbey Road of Masiya “Abbey”.

“Melina” and “Betty” are sisters.

Here is a short movie featuring Congo in his adventures in the dogshow ring, at home, and at the Park.
The end of the movie shows him with his new owner Judy.

The Band

My son plays Tenor Sax in a band called Mutha Knows Best.  They recently had a gig in Seattle at the Highway 99 Blues Club.  Bryan and I had a great time watching the band, but I could not get him out on the dance floor!  I took my camera along and was able to get a few shots.

A few more pictures of the rest of the band can be found here.

As I was taking pictures of the band and playing with different setting on the camera I noticed that Chris was playing a solo.  I quickly pressed the video recording button, but forgot to turn the camera back to horizontal.  The recording is posted on my new YouTube Channel.  You just have to turn your head sideways to view it!   We are so proud of him!

Next performance will be December 9 at the Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn.

2011 Emerald Splash (also known as AKC Lure Coursing hosted by NWCC and EBC)

The NorthWest Coursing Club and the Evergreen Basenji Club host an annual AKC Lure Trial on Thanksgiving weekend at Kharkov Farm in Auburn, Washington, called the Emerald Splash (for obvious reasons).  This year the rain stayed away on Saturday.  Bryan and I are charter members of the NWCC and have attended every year.

Pictures taken on Saturday at the NWCC trial are found here.

This year is unique because TEN of the Top 25 AKC Nationally ranked (Bowens system as of November 3) Basenjis competed!  This includes the TOP FIVE ranked basenjis!
